Korean everyday vocabulary in short contexts
112 Hangul-based cards for English-reading beginners: 84 everyday words in short contexts, with 28 selective recall prompts and polite Korean examples.
Tietoja tästä pakasta
Recall everyday Korean words in short situations: introducing yourself, being at home, eating, shopping, making plans, finding places and using local transport. This deck is for English-reading beginners who can already decode Hangul slowly. It is a focused vocabulary selection, not a full Korean course or a certified level.
The 112 cards cover 84 lexical concepts. On 84 recognition cards, give the English meaning of the bold Hangul word in an original sentence. On 28 separate recall cards, use an English situation and a Hangul gap to retrieve a useful Korean word or form. Each answer starts with the target and restores a complete sentence with an English translation. Verb and adjective notes distinguish the dictionary headword from its actual polite form. Other valid wording can exist; these are model answers, not an exhaustive translation key.
Examples use contemporary standard South Korean usage and polite everyday 해요체. 주세요 and 도와주세요 are labelled polite requests. Dictionary headwords are reference forms. This one register does not cover every social relationship or situation.
Seven topic blocks move from daily life and home through food, shopping, time, places and transport/help. Within each block, selected recall cards follow recognition with at least three unrelated intervening cards. The root tag is korean-everyday; one additional tag identifies the topic. The app schedules later reviews.
The deck deliberately omits mechanical reverses for every word, full dialogue translation, alphabet instruction, romanization practice, pronunciation assessment, audio, listening practice and examination preparation. It does not establish speaking ability or a TOPIK/CEFR level. Use reviewed listening and speaking resources alongside text recall if those are your goals.
Cards, examples and explanations were independently written with AI assistance. Lexical senses and forms were checked using the National Institute of Korean Language’s Korean-English Learners’ Dictionary; the student label and polite-style distinctions were checked against UNSW’s introductory Korean Unit 4. The pharmacy label was also checked in Yale’s study-abroad guide. No dictionary definitions, source example sentences, textbook exercises, competitor inventories or private user cards were copied. The cover is an original AI-generated illustration.
CC0 applies only to the original card wording, examples, organization, metadata and generated cover to the extent applicable rights exist. It does not license source materials or claim ownership of language facts. This is an independent, unofficial study resource; NIKL, UNSW and Yale have not endorsed it and are not affiliated with it.
