SAP® software IDoc status codes: meanings and next observations
30 English cards on eight SAP IDoc statuses, sender/receiver boundaries and display-only next observations. Scoped to classic ALE/tRFC in SAP S/4HANA 2025 FPS01.
About this deck
Thirty original English cards for learners and junior integration specialists reading IDoc status evidence in SAP S/4HANA® 2025 FPS01 software. The scope is classic on-premise ALE with tRFC and direct inbound application processing, checked against ABAP® platform 2025 FPS01 documentation version 202510.001, build 915.
Practise outbound 03/12 and inbound 51/53/63/64/69/70 meanings, distinguish sender and receiver local IDocs, and choose nondestructive next observations. Prompts connect codes with processing boundaries, status text, TID correlation, conditional logs and linked objects. Status 69/70 cards recognize editing history only.
The sequence introduces control/data/status records and storage before posting, then interleaves code recognition with constructed diagnostic situations. Related variants are separated; the review scheduler sets later intervals. There are no automatic reverse cards for every fact, no exhaustive status table, and no mandatory universal status sequence.
Excluded: status 30, Cloud ALM, Integration Suite/TPM, Public Cloud, ECC, qRFC/file flows, acknowledgements, configuration, report execution and repair/retry/reprocess/edit/delete/reset/resend instructions. System-specific cause and corrective-action choices require the actual interface and business context. Logs and object links are conditional. No live SAP system was tested.
AI-assisted original questions, explanations, arrangement and generated cover. Facts were checked against the version-pinned official sources; this is educational source-based material, with no claim of SAP certification or production experience. No private learner cards, exam questions, course text, source diagrams, screenshots or third-party images were copied. CC0 applies to original wording, organization, metadata and generated media to the extent applicable rights exist; SAP source material, facts and trademarks retain their own status.

Cards in this deck
Card 1
Question
SAP ALE IDoc: which record identifies sender, recipient and direction?
Answer
The control record. It also identifies the IDoc type.
Card 2
Question
SAP ALE IDoc: where is application payload stored, as distinct from processing status?
Answer
In data segments. Processing and error information belongs to status information.
Card 3
Question
SAP ALE inbound: does storing an IDoc already mean its application document is posted?
Answer
No. Storage precedes application posting; transfer to the application can be immediate or delayed.
Card 4
Question
SAP ALE/tRFC outbound status 03: what boundary has been reached?
Answer
The sender has handed the IDoc to tRFC. Receiver application posting is not established.
Card 5
Question
SAP ALE inbound status 64: what is the IDoc ready for?
Answer
Transfer to the application.
Card 6
Question
SAP ALE status monitor: which three filters are recommended together for performance?
Answer
Change date, status and message type.
Card 7
Question
SAP direct ALE inbound status 51: what is the posting result?
Answer
The application document was not posted.
Card 8
Question
SAP inbound IDoc status 69: what history does it identify?
Answer
An edited IDoc. This is history recognition, not an instruction to edit or process it.
Card 9
Question
SAP ALE/tRFC outbound status 12: what has the documented dispatch check confirmed?
Answer
Dispatch to the receiving SAP system: Dispatch OK. It does not establish receiver application posting.
Card 10
Question
SAP IDoc display: when can an application log provide extra error detail?
Answer
When the application wrote an error log. Its displayed log ID can lead to that log.
Card 11
Question
SAP ALE inbound status 63: which processing boundary reports an error?
Answer
Passing the IDoc to the application.
Card 12
Question
SAP direct ALE inbound status 53: what posting result is recorded?
Answer
The application document was posted.
Card 13
Question
SAP IDoc monitor: why is a traffic-light color alone an unsafe status definition?
Answer
The color assignment can be customized. Read the numeric status and its text.
Card 14
Question
SAP inbound IDoc status 70: what record does it identify after editing?
Answer
The retained original of an edited IDoc, saved as a new IDoc record.
Card 15
Question
SAP ALE: before comparing sender and receiver statuses, what IDoc identity distinction matters?
Answer
They belong to separate local IDocs in separate systems. Identify each system, IDoc number and direction.
Card 16
Question
SAP tRFC-port IDoc at 03: which identifier in its status display correlates the tRFC call?
Answer
The transaction ID (TID).
Card 17
Question
Scenario: a SAP inbound IDoc waits at 64. Which processing context should you establish first?
Answer
Whether application transfer is immediate or handled in background processing. The number alone does not establish a fault.
Card 18
Question
Scenario: a SAP inbound IDoc has 51. What evidence should precede naming its cause?
Answer
Read the application error in its status records, including available long text. Status 51 alone does not identify a specific cause.
Card 19
Question
SAP individual IDoc display: where can you inspect an already linked application document?
Answer
In the relationships available through Object Services. The object must already be linked.
Card 20
Question
SAP ALE/tRFC: why can successful sending still lack an automatic outbound status-12 update?
Answer
Successful-dispatch information is not automatically returned to the ALE communication layer.
Card 21
Question
Scenario: a SAP ALE/tRFC sender has 03 but no receiver IDoc is found. Where should you inspect the transport state?
Answer
Inspect the corresponding tRFC call status in SM58, using the TID and relevant selection context. Status 03 alone does not prove arrival.
Card 22
Question
Scenario: a SAP inbound IDoc has 63. What is the next display-only evidence to inspect?
Answer
Its error message and available status long text, before assigning a cause or remedy.
Card 23
Question
Scenario: SAP inbound status 53 is present, but the question concerns a specific business document. What should you inspect?
Answer
The linked application object, if present. Status 53 records posting; the particular business question needs that application evidence.
Card 24
Question
SAP ALE status monitor BD87: why must an observation task stay on display functions?
Answer
BD87 also supports manual processing. Opening a monitor does not make every available action observational.
Card 25
Question
Scenario: a SAP ALE/tRFC sender has 03, while its matching receiver IDoc has 51. Are the statuses contradictory?
Answer
No. Sender handoff to tRFC and receiver application-posting failure describe different boundaries on different local IDocs.
Card 26
Question
SAP ALE: is local IDoc status information sent as part of the IDoc payload?
Answer
No. Status information is transferred separately through status processing.
Card 27
Question
SAP ALE inbound statuses 51 and 63: which one explicitly identifies an error passing the IDoc to the application?
Answer
- Status 51 identifies an application document that was not posted.
Card 28
Question
Scenario: a SAP IDoc display offers no application-log link. Where can application error detail still be recorded?
Answer
In the status records. An application-log link depends on the application having written a log.
Card 29
Question
SAP ALE monitor: after a grouped status count, what display reveals the individual control, data and status records?
Answer
The individual IDoc display. Open the relevant IDoc from the selected list.
Card 30
Question
Scenario: a SAP ALE/tRFC sender has 12. Where should you look to establish receiver application posting?
Answer
At the receiver IDoc and its application evidence. Confirmed dispatch does not supply the receiver posting result.
