Swedish everyday words and useful short phrases
112 English-cued cards: 28 Swedish nouns with en/ett, 28 separate plurals, 28 present-tense verb gaps and 28 short phrases for home, food, travel and conversation.
Um þennan stokk
Practise Swedish for a few ordinary moments: finding something at home, buying food, getting around town and talking to people. The prompts and explanations are in English. The set suits learners who can already read short Swedish words and want a small written practice set.
The 112 cards practise four mappings:
- 28 English noun meanings → a Swedish noun with en or ett.
- The same 28 Swedish nouns → their indefinite plural, on separate cards.
- 28 supplied verb infinitives → a present-tense form in an original sentence, with an English translation.
- 28 everyday situations → a short Swedish utterance.
The noun prompts give one useful standard model answer; other natural synonyms can be valid. Verb prompts test the form of the supplied verb. Phrase answers are useful models, with selected alternatives and brief usage notes. Equivalent natural Swedish can be accepted. Articles and plurals are checked separately so you can notice which part needs practice.
Four sections cover home, food, getting around and everyday conversation. Each introduces seven nouns, then contextual verbs and short phrases, followed by the noun plurals. The two cards for each noun are 21 positions apart. Repetition intervals are set by the app.
This is a focused evergreen selection, without an assigned CEFR or SFI level. It does not cover a complete beginner course, every meaning, unrestricted reverse translation, past-tense paradigms, definite-plural drills, full dialogues, listening or pronunciation assessment. One useful phrase for being lost contains a perfect-tense form; that form is supplied as part of the phrase rather than taught as a tense system.
Noun articles/plurals, verb forms and selected usage were checked on 1 November 2026 against Svenska Akademiens SAOL and Svensk ordbok. The situations, English glosses, sentences and sequence were independently created with AI assistance. No dictionary definitions, source examples, KELLY vocabulary inventory, competitor cards, private learner cards, textbook exercises or examination materials were copied. The cover is an original AI-generated illustration.
