These 90 English flashcards build recognition of common terms seen in introductory nursing, EMT, medical-assisting, allied-health, and medical-terminology study.
What the cards practice
- 80 abbreviation-to-expansion mappings, each followed by one short plain-English meaning or context note: 22 diagnostic or laboratory terms, 32 conditions or infections, and 26 care, anatomy, or documentation terms.
- Four bounded reverse mappings where producing the exact abbreviation is common, useful, and comparatively unambiguous: blood pressure → BP, cardiopulmonary resuscitation → CPR, complete blood count → CBC, and magnetic resonance imaging → MRI.
- Six context and safety checks covering ambiguity, U/u, IU, QD/QOD variants, decimal notation, and MS/MSO4/MgSO4.
Plausible reverse prompts for BID, TID, PRN, U/u, IU, QD/QOD, MS, MSO4, and MgSO4 are deliberately excluded. Producing those forms can be unsafe, ambiguous, or dependent on institutional policy. The deck teaches BID, TID, and PRN only for recognition and gives plain-language replacements for prohibited forms. It also excludes dosing, treatment decisions, patient-specific advice, and institution-specific shorthand.
Learning order
The sequence alternates diagnostic tests, conditions, care terms, and safety checks instead of presenting one long alphabetical run. The four forward/reverse pairs are separated by at least three unrelated cards. Easily confused laboratory, blood-cell, viral, gastrointestinal, and vascular terms are spaced apart so nearby cards do not give away the answer.
