MCAT Physics & Chemistry Equation Flashcards: Formulas, Units & When to Use Them

These 180 cards build fast recall for the equation-heavy part of MCAT Chem/Phys: 95 physics cards and 85 chemistry cards. They cover formulas, variables, units, assumptions, signs, and the small clues that tell you which relationship fits.

What the cards practice

The prompts move in several useful directions. Some ask for an equation from a concept, some ask what an equation or unit means, and others give a short original setup where the main job is choosing the right relationship. Common traps—such as static friction always equaling its maximum, Celsius in a gas law, or multiplying a reduction potential by a coefficient—get their own constraint cards.

This isn't a mechanical set of forward-and-reverse pairs. Closely related variants appear only when they train a different recall job, and the fixed order keeps them at least three unrelated cards apart. Physics and chemistry are interleaved while prerequisites stay in order inside each topic. Long-term spacing is left to the review scheduler.

Coverage

Physics covers dimensional analysis and SI units, mechanics, fluids, waves and sound, electrostatics, circuits, magnetism, light, geometrical optics, and thermal expansion. Chemistry covers gases, stoichiometry, solutions and concentration, acids and bases, buffers, thermodynamics, calorimetry, kinetics, equilibrium, solubility, and electrochemistry.

The deck is a recall layer, not a substitute for passage analysis, estimation, or multi-step calculation practice. The AAMC outline includes scientific reasoning and formula use in context, so practice problems still matter.

Scope and provenance

The current AAMC content outline was used to set the boundary, while independent open references were used to check equations, variables, units, assumptions, and sign conventions. The prompts, answers, micro-scenarios, sequence, and metadata were written independently. Public pages from UWorld, MedSchoolCoach, and MCAT Bootcamp were compared only at a structural level; no table, wording, example, or organization was copied.

The Common knowledge · CC0 1.0 label applies to the original wording, organization, metadata, and generated cover to the extent applicable rights exist. It doesn't claim ownership of scientific facts or third-party names.

This package is independent and unofficial, with no affiliation with or endorsement by AAMC. No official questions, answer keys, mark schemes, outline wording, logos, or trade dress were copied. Check the official AAMC MCAT content outline for the exam owner's current requirements.

    ac=v2/r=ω2ra_c=v^2/r=\omega^2r.

    It points toward the center even when speed is constant.

    Pergunta

    How do ions in a salt bridge move to maintain electroneutrality in a galvanic cell?

    Resposta

    Anions migrate toward the anode compartment, where oxidation creates excess positive charge. Cations migrate toward the cathode compartment, where reduction creates relative excess negative charge by consuming cations or producing anions. These migrations maintain charge neutrality.

    Pergunta

    What is the maximum kinetic energy in the photoelectric effect?

    Resposta

    Kmax=hfϕK_{\max}=hf-\phi.

    Electrons are emitted when hfϕhf\geq\phi. Exactly at threshold, hf=ϕhf=\phi and Kmax=0K_{\max}=0; positive kinetic energy requires hf>ϕhf>\phi.

    Pergunta

    What molar volume is a useful ideal-gas reference at 0C0^\circ\mathrm{C} and 1 atm1\ \mathrm{atm}?

    Resposta

    About 22.4 L/mol22.4\ \mathrm{L/mol}.

    This shortcut is tied to those stated conditions, not every convention labeled STP.

    Pergunta

    What is the period of an ideal mass–spring oscillator?

    Resposta

    T=2πm/kT=2\pi\sqrt{m/k}.

    The small-amplitude period depends on mass and spring stiffness, not amplitude.

    Pergunta

    For MX2(s)M2++2XMX_2(s)\rightleftharpoons M^{2+}+2X^-, how is KspK_{sp} related to molar solubility ss in pure water?

    Resposta

    Ksp=s(2s)2=4s3K_{sp}=s(2s)^2=4s^3.

    This relation changes when a common ion is already present.

    Pergunta

    What does a dimensional-consistency check require of an equation?

    Resposta

    Every term that is added or equated must have the same dimensions. A mismatch, such as adding energy to force, proves the equation or unit conversion is wrong.

  175. Cartão 175

    Pergunta

    How is percent ionization of a weak acid calculated?

    Resposta

    %ionization=100×[H+]eq/[HA]0\%\mathrm{ionization}=100\times[H^+]_{\mathrm{eq}}/[HA]_0 for a monoprotic acid. Dilution generally raises percent ionization even while lowering [H+][H^+].

  176. Cartão 176

    Pergunta

    What pressure difference does surface tension create across one spherical liquid–gas interface?

    Resposta

    ΔP=2γ/r\Delta P=2\gamma/r.

    For a soap bubble with two interfaces, ΔP=4γ/r\Delta P=4\gamma/r. Smaller radii require larger pressure differences.

    Pergunta

    What energy balance applies in an insulated calorimetry problem?

    Resposta

    q=0\sum q=0, so heat lost by hotter parts equals heat gained by colder parts and the calorimeter. Include every component named in the setup.

  178. Cartão 178

    Pergunta

    What radius does a charged particle follow when moving perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field?

    Resposta

    r=mv/(qB)r=mv/(|q|B).

    The magnetic force supplies centripetal force; faster or heavier particles curve less.

  179. Cartão 179

    Pergunta

    How do you find concentration after mixing solutions of the same nonreacting solute?

    Resposta

    Mf=(M1V1+M2V2)/(V1+V2)M_f=(M_1V_1+M_2V_2)/(V_1+V_2) when volumes are additive. If the solutes react, do stoichiometry before calculating the remaining concentration.

  180. Cartão 180

    Pergunta

    What net inward force is required for circular motion?

    Resposta

    Fc=mv2/r=mω2rF_c=mv^2/r=m\omega^2r.

    “Centripetal force” is the inward net force supplied by real forces, not an extra force.
